Research into Pink and Christina Aguilera

As part of a class discussion we looked at how music videos address and please their audiences, as a class we looked a Pink's F**king perfect.

We discussed how the text appeals to the audience by showing problems such as drugs, bullying, arguing and self harm. It enables the audience to be able to relate to these and also Pink as she showing how she had this hard life but has been able to make it to the top giving her audience reason to aspire to be like her and therefore want to listen to the song more. It also uses key mise-en-scene to show a difference in narrative for example, once she has self harmed there is no music and the camera focuses on a teddy bear and the chorus then begins. By doing this they show that the girl in the narrative has had a re- awakening.
The audience would be pleased with this text because it is of a similar constant theme to Pink's other music videos, where she sings about problems in her life and her rise to fame. Therefore he fans will enjoy the music as it similar so they  know they will like it. Also it might attract new audiences who can relate to what is in the video such as bullying or self harm.
The institution would see this video as a successful video as it portrays Pink in a way that the audience like to see her -one of them - and also it will sell as it follows the same theme as other pink videos.

I then went away and found another music video Christina Aguilera Beautiful which has a similar theme to Pink's music video.

This text also appeals to its audience as again it shows several problems that the audience may have encountered and then can relate too such as eating disorders, homosexuality, bullying, goth fashion and more.  The mise-en-scene in this video is similar to Pink's music video as it has neutral colours which allows the audience to focus on the meaning of the song, but also shows how Christina Aguilera is equal with the audience, she is also different and controversial not the stereotypical pop star. Allowing the audience to be able to relate to her, and connect with the song.
The audience would also be pleased with this video, as it is a similar controversial song that isn't afraid to break boundaries such as her 'Dirty' video. Her fans will then have a certain expectation of what this text will be like and therefore will like it as it is similar to her other songs. It also may attract new fans that have suffered problems shown in the video.
The institution will also be pleased with this text as it is a constant theme so she already has a fan base, but it allows the audience to be able to relate and connect to Christina allowing them to see her as 'human' and not a glamorous pop star.
