Narrative Theories

There are different narrative theories that all explain why narratives are structured in a certain way and how it conveys the meaning of the text to the audience and interests and engages the audience.

Propps narrative theory -
Propp found that in most narratives there are 8 characters that are always in narratives these are the hero, the villain, the donor, the dispatcher, the false hero, the helper, the princess and her farther and that these characters have a narrative function and provide a structure for texts

Todorovs narrative theory -
Todorov proposed a basic narrative theory that is known as the classic narrative structure. Todorov stated that in each narrative at the start there is a state of equilibrium where opposing forces are in peace and there is a once upon time moment. Agents of disruption then change the state to a disequilibrium a period of dis -settlement. This is then followed by a renewed state of peace and harmony for the protagonists and brings a new equilibrium.

And Lastly Barthes codes -
Which have been discussed earlier on, but barthes codes include:
Semic
Action
Cultural
Symbolic
Enigma

All of these theories will help me to construct my own music video, they will aid me to know how to construct narrative structures so that I can convey my meaning of the song and keep the audience interested.
